So you may be thinking, "Why can’t I just use my webcam and record videos to send to prospects?”

What is video prospecting?

Video prospecting is a sales prospecting technique of pitching to your prospect via a customized video. Salespeople are increasingly starting to utilise video prospecting because virtual sales is becoming more important as more and more prospects are becoming more comfortable buying remotely.

Of course you can also send messages on social platforms and e-mails but a video is more personalized and stands out from a saturated inbox of text-based messages. It also prevents misunderstanding with your messaging because your prospect is able to see your face and your facial expressions so they can interpret the meaning behind your message more clearly.

Furthermore, video prospecting is less intrusive than prospecting over the phone as it allows your prospect to make a decision as to whether they should get back to you without being forced into continue the conversation.
Your prospect will be more willing to talk since, with most tools, it is easy to respond to a video via the tool itself, you can respond with a text, a smiley, and sometimes even with a video.

You can use it for pre-sales, prospecting, and after-sales. Pre-sales by sending videos introducing yourself, prospecting by showing them how you can help them, and after-sales by answering any questions/doubts they have or reminding them of key details from previous sales calls, for example.

And the best part – a lot of the tools recommended below have a free option, so you don’t need to take a risk by investing money. It’s a no-brainer!

You may be thinking, "Why can’t I just use my webcam and record videos to send to prospects?”

Well, you can. But…Video files are large. 
  • If you want to send 10 x 1-minute videos every day to prospects, your storage is going to become cluttered very quickly and you’ll need to decide what videos you need to delete to save space.
  • Email providers file size limits are max 20-25 MB. I just recorded a 1-minute video with Quicktime movie player. Guess what the size was? 80 MB! Yes, you can share the video via platforms like WeTransfer but it just creates more friction for your prospect.
  • You’ll also need video editing software to crop your video at the start and end.
  • You can’t add any CTAs to the video.
  • The thumbnail for the video is static and often the worst screenshot of your face.
  • Your video doesn’t include any branding that shows who you are and what company you represent.
  • And how do you know if they watched the video? You can’t because it isn’t trackable.

Video prospecting tools allow you to:

  • Store videos on the video prospecting platform itself rather than your hard drive or Dropbox.
  • Send videos as links (depending on the platform, the link generates a static or animated gif).
  • Create individual video landing pages with text that is personalised to each prospect.
  • Make quick edits to the video on the platform.

You have a free version of Vidyard for an unlimited period where you can record, upload, and share videos.

If you are a sales professional who is just about to begin making videos, this is perfect for you because you can try it without convincing your boss to sign off for it and you can write and read off an online script until you’re comfortable with your pitch.
  • The tool is very user-friendly and easy to use as well.
  • There is an easy-to-download Chrome extension to make sure you can create sales videos where and whenever you would like to. You can download the extension for Microsoft, Apple, and your mobile phone on the App Store or Google Play Store.
  • A big pro is that you will receive a notification when someone watches your video, so you can immediately reach out to a prospect once they have seen your video. However, you can only see the location so if you’re sending out the same message in bulk, it would be difficult to identify the prospect.
  • You can create a theme with your company’s logo and brand colors with the branding option. By adding team members it’s also easy to share your videos with your teammates.
  • Want to share your videos via social media? You can easily share your videos via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Youtube, and LinkedIn. This is useful when you are doing social selling.
  • You can even create e-mails and include your video in the e-mail. By including a video in your e-mail you can increase your e-mail click-through rate by up to 300%. This is because the video links can appear as animated gifs which is more eye-catching for the prospect.

Disadvantages of this tool

  • The customer service is not that good so if you have any questions it is hard to reach them, which means that you have to figure things out yourself.
  • The free version only has limited options so if you already have some experience making sales videos, this may not be enough. E.g. you don’t have the possibility to edit your videos.
  • There is no possibility for the prospect to respond to a video with a video message although prospects can respond to your video with a text message on your landing page.

Pricing

  • Unlimited free version; good for beginners since you are able to record a video, upload a video, and share videos.
  • Vidyard Pro is $15 per month; you also have the ability to create a call-to-action for videos such as a Calendly integration. This is great if you want to increase the number of prospecting calls booked. Furthermore, you have a lot of editing options to personalize your videos like adding a call to action.
  • A CTA (call to action) is very useful if you would like give your prospect more information about your product/service for example. Want to try the paid version for free first? You can try it for free for 14 days to have a look if this is what you’re looking for.
  • Vidyard Team is $300 per month; you can create a sharing page with your logo and colors to brand it.
  • Vidyard Business is $1250 per month; you can fully customize call to actions in your videos to increase your sales and you can even include Vidyard in your CRM system.

Rating - 10/10

It is very easy to use, you have an unlimited free version and for only $15 a month you will have a lot more options to customise your sales videos. 

Why this tool?

  • You have a lot of editing options with Dubb such as background colors, frame colors, player colors, text colors and header colors.
  • You have different frameworks for your video and there is the possibility to make a custom background. If you have some experience with video making, this tool will be great for you.
  • A unique feature is the custom landing pages with CTA buttons. With this feature you can add a button such as ‘download our guide here for more information’ to make your prospect even more familiar with your product or service.
  • With the ‘Your Tasks’ tool you can create deadlines for yourself for each task you have to do. This will help you as a sales professional to make sure you will contact your prospect on time and follow up on them in the right order.
  • You can see your activities in the general stats and you can easily see your e-mail click rates, watch rates, call rates, and many more. This is useful because you can see how much your prospect has engaged with your content, how much of your video they’ve watched, etc. You can contact them at the most appropriate time with the most relevant information.

Disadvantages

The biggest disadvantage is that there is no possibility to share your screen and make a video of yourself at the same time. If you are sharing your screen, you will only have audio.
This means that it is not possible, for example, to show your product and at the same time record a video or to share your prospect's LinkedIn profile and record a video at the same time. Sharing their LinkedIn page will amplify their attention as people like to see themselves. Also it is important to show yourself on camera as eye contact helps to build rapport, and visual cues such as waving captures your prospect’s attention.

Pricing

  • Unlimited free version with some basic tools.
  • Pro version is $32 a month. With the Pro version you have more options to customise your videos, unlimited storage, YouTube integrations, Team management and more.
  • Pro Plus is $80 a month. With Pro Plus you will have more support, an Account Manager, API access, Calify.me Calendar and more custom options such as custom e-mail templates. The custom e-mail templates are useful especially when you are a beginner because then you don't have to think about how you are going to design your e-mail all by yourself.

Rating - 9/10

The tool is very easy to use, you have an unlimited free version. Furthermore, you have a lot of options when it comes to tasks such as the stats, because in the stats you can see the video sales data.

And, with the ‘Your tasks’ tool you can easily prioritize your tasks when you have a lot of prospects. The reason this tool isn’t 10/10 is because you can’t share your screen and make a video at the same time.

  • Very easy to use.
  • With Loom, you can share your screen and make a video at the same time which is very useful because when you're video prospecting, you can make a video and show your product at the same time. Disadvantages

You can’t respond to videos via video messaging. As well as this, with the free version you can only make up to 25 videos. So if you start using video messaging to prospect a lot, you would have to delete these 25 videos every day and start again. And not only that, some of the videos you create may be standard and are sent to more than one prospect e.g. an intro, a demo, etc. so this would limit the amount of videos you could make even further.

Pricing

  • Unlimited free version with some basic tools.
  • Business for $8 per month. If you have more experience and would like to have more features this will be great for you. With this subscription you can make as many sales videos as you like, you can add calls-to-action at the end of your video, you can customize your videos by changing the thumbnail, trim the video, and let your prospect react with an emoji 😀
  • If you are an advanced user, they make a personal offer for your team!

Rating - 9/10

Loom is very easy to use and for only $8 you will have a lot more features to customise your videos. You can increase your booked sales calls by adding a CTA button with ‘book your call here’ to encourage your prospect to take action because it’s very easy to do so. It is not a 10/10 because you can only make 25 videos in total with the free version which won’t be enough if you are making lots of sales videos. 

Why this tool?

  • It very easy to create an account on Bigvu. In 2 minutes, it’s done.
  • It’s possible to create a landing page by yourself which is good because this will make it more personal. With this landing page you can create an option for your customers to book a sales call easily. Don’t know how to do this? The instruction video will show you easily how to do this.
  • You can create a theme with your company’s logo and brand colors with the branding option. By adding team members it’s also easy to share your videos with your teammates.
  • Want to share your videos via social media? You can easily share your videos via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Youtube, and LinkedIn. This is useful when you are doing social selling.
  • A unique feature is the “teleprompter” feature. This is useful when you’re not comfortable/confident behind the camera and you don’t like to improvise.

Disadvantages

The biggest disadvantage of this tool is that there is no possibility to share your screen while making a video. This means that it is not possible, for example, to show your product and at the same time record a video or to share your prospect's LinkedIn profile and record a video in the meantime. Because as previously highlighted, prospects like to see themselves and this grabs their attention. 

Pricing

  • A starter package for $14.99 a month; you create videos up to 9 minutes and there is no option to customise your videos.
  • A plus package for $39 a month; with this subscription you can make videos up to 59 minutes and customise your videos with colours and fonts.
  • A workgroup package for $149 a month; this package is for 5 users with 1 shared library to share your videos and you can make videos for up to 59 minutes.

Rating - 8/10

It is the easiest tool to create an account with. You can easily customise your videos and share them via different platforms. A big disadvantage of this tool is that every package has a limit of minutes so you are not able to create as many sales videos as you would like.

Even for the workgroup package, each user only gets just under 12 minutes each. If your prospecting videos are only 1 minute, that’s only 12 videos each. So if you want to add video prospecting to your sales team’s repertoire, I wouldn’t use this tool. Also, with the workgroup package you’ll have to pay a lot each month and it is only for 5 users. 

Why this tool?

  • With BombBomb, you can create e-mails and include your video in the e-mail. In this way you are able to personalize your e-mails and videos for your prospect.
  • You can share your screen and make a video at the same time. This is useful when you are recording as you can share your video and the LinkedIn profile of your prospect which is very valuable as mentioned above.
  • You can also upload your own background with your product or logo.
  • There is the possibility to create a team to share your videos with and you can create a contact list of your prospects which helps with organisation and follow ups.
  • You can also add CTAs which is great because when you add a ‘book your call here’ button you can encourage your prospects to take action.

Disadvantages

Unfortunately, it takes a lot of steps to install the BombBomb installer and it’s not possible to record a video without this installer. So, it’s not enough to create an account only. 

Pricing

  • A 14-day free trial and after this trial;
  • BombBomb Essentials for $29 a month: with this subscription you can create an unlimited number of videos and you can track your videos and see analytics. Furthermore, you can create CTAs such as a ‘book a call here’ button, which is very useful if you would like your prospect to take action and book a sales call.
  • BombBomb Plus for $49 a month; this subscription includes mass sending, Team management tools, front-of-the-line customer service and Salesforce & advanced integrations.

Rating - 7/10

It is not really user-friendly as it is hard to create an account and download the installer.

The biggest disadvantage of this tool is that there is no possibility to share your screen while making a video. This means that it is not possible to show your product and at the same time record a video or to share your prospect's LinkedIn profile and record a video in the meantime as mentioned above. 

Pricing

At Bonjoro you have a lot of different options when it comes to subscriptions. Depending on which features you would like to have, you will pay between $0 and $79 a month. Don’t know which subscription you should take? Good news: you can try every subscription for free for 14 days. The higher the price, the more options you have to personalize your video.

  • Starter subscription for $15 a month. You get your own branding and 1 video template.
  • Pro subscription for $33 a month. You can schedule your videos, get 5 video templates, and even a branded subdomain.
  • Grrrowth subscription for $79 a month. You can create a group video with your whole sales team, get 25 video templates, and a custom domain.

Rating - 6/10

When you compare it to the tools I mentioned above, it’s less user-friendly and less easy to make videos. But there are still good features such as the option to prioritise your tasks and the different templates to customise your sales video.  

Why this tool?

  • It is easy to create an account on Covideo.
  • Possibility to create a video and share your screen at the same time, but if you prefer to only make a video or only share your screen that’s also an option!
  • With the different designs, you can make your videos as personalized as you would like to.
  • The ‘reports’ page allows you to have a look at the number of views of your videos, CTA Clicks and the Engagement rate.

Disadvantages

A disadvantage of this tool is that it takes a while to download videos. Besides this, the tool is quite expensive after the 7-day free trial. 

Pricing

After the 7 days free trial, you have to pay $69 a month. 

Rating - 6/10

In my opinion, the tool has no special features when you compare it with the other tools and therefore the price is very high. 

Why this tool?

  • With Hippo Video you can create a video and share your screen at the same time.
  • It is also possible to upload a previously made video, this is useful if you still want to reuse an old sales video that was effective in the past.
  • You can create a video from images which is nice when you would like to create a pre-sales video from images of your different products.

Disadvantages

  • Not very user-friendly since it was hard to create an account.
  • It is not possible to create a landing page.
  • With the free version you have a limited recording time of 15 minutes.

Pricing

  • You have an unlimited free version where you have a 15-minute recording limit per video.
  • Sales Starter subscription for $15 a month; with this subscription you can add text in your videos and you can record unlimited full HD recordings.
  • Sales Pro subscription for $30 a month; with this subscription you can add a teleprompter which is useful when you’re not comfortable/confident behind the camera and you don’t like to improvise. Furthermore, you can create sales pages, CTAs and meeting links to make it easier for you prospect to book a call.
  • Sales Growth for $48 a month; with this subscription you can even customise your sales pages and add demos, testimonials and contract PDFs to it. You can also make video campaigns to generate more leads.
  • Sales Enterprise from $79 a month; with this subscription you have access to a video template builder in case you would like to use the same customised template for different prospects which is very useful.

Rating - 5/10

It was not very user-friendly since it was hard to create an account. Also when I forgot my password I received an email to reset my password but the link wasn’t included in the email and therefore I couldn’t reset my password.

Besides this, it is not possible to create a landing page, I think that a personalized landing page can add a lot of value to your prospect because research shows that personalisation strengthens the relationship with your prospect. 

Why this tool?

  • There are a lot of templates with Videoask that make it easier for you to create a customised video if you are just a beginner and have little experience. This is very useful because you don’t have to think of a layout yourself.
  • With the contact list you can create a list of all your contacts that you would like to send videos to. This makes it easier to organise your prospects as you can keep track of which prospect you’ve already sent videos to and know when to follow up.
  • You can be a free user forever! With the free version you can make 20 minutes of video each month. If you are a beginner this will be enough for you.

Disadvantages

  • This tool doesn’t have a lot of options with the free version.
  • This tool is not suitable for bigger teams because even with the ‘Brand’ version you can only add 10 team members.

Pricing

  • Free version with basic tools.
  • Grow for $22 a month; with this subscription you can build custom workflows and you can use up to 100 minutes of video per month.
  • Brand for $36 a month; own the entire experience and personalize it with your brand and you can use up to 200 minutes of video per month.

Rating - 5/10

The free version doesn’t have a lot of options and in my opinion, you have better features with the paid versions of the other tools for less money. 

Why this tool?

  • The good thing about Drift is that it’s free!
  • Besides creating videos there is also Drift Email. Drift Email lets you automatically greet prospects you send emails to with a personalised message when they’re on your site.
  • A unique feature is the chatbot tool. With this chatbot you can ask questions to the customer care service of Drift. This is useful if you are new on Drift and have some questions about the pricing or the different features for example.

Disadvantages

  • It is not easy to create an account and install the extension. It will take a lot of time to create an account since you have to fill out a lot of questions.
  • The chatbot is an automatic chatbot which means that you will get an automatic reply and because of that, you won’t get any personalized responses, therefore the answers aren’t always useful.
  • The tool isn’t very user-friendly because it’s hard to find where to do what. There is no straightforward menu or overview where you can see where everything can be found.

The tool is for free.

First of all, it takes a lot of time to create an account and when you have done that, the tool is not very user-friendly. This is because it is not easy to find the different features on the website and therefore it takes some time before you create your sales video.

So what’s my favourite video prospecting tool?

Vidyard is my favourite tool.

Why? Because it is very user-friendly. It is very useful for making videos as a beginner but also when you are more advanced it is nice that for only $15 a month you have many more options to personalise your videos.

Vidyard’s platform includes the most important elements of video prospecting such as making your video, sharing your screen and video at the same time, creating a landing page, adding CTAs, and editing and thus personalising your videos. In addition, it doesn't matter if you prefer to share your videos via e-mail, LinkedIn or even TikTok because with Vidyard it's all possible.

Furthermore, although your prospect cannot respond via a video with this tool, it's not a huge setback as they can respond with a text message below the video and you can add CTAs throughout or at the end of the video so you can still get in touch with each other. Also, in many other tools this option is not available either.
Vidyard is therefore the best tool in my opinion, as it has all the necessary features to impress your prospect and therefore generate more sales calls.
